Roosevelt Corollary Political Cartoon

The issue of this political cartoon is again the Roosevelt Corollary. The message of the cartoon is the response to any European country that bothers one of America's territories. Another message may be the way American territories feel about the bill. One more message maybe the way Europe feels about the law. Opinions may be that the bill is dangerous to our trade by making Europe trade with a potential dangerous ally. Others could be that we would just slaughter the invading troops. Techniques used by the artist are symbolism and labeling. Symbolism is used by showing how Europe will be treated and labeling to show the countries. This cartoon shows how ,to me, countries will be protective of their countries. Helpful for the smaller countries to know, not good for other countries.

Roosevelt Corollary Politcal cartoon

The issue of this political cartoon is the Roosevelt Corollary. The main issue of the bill is the severity of it. The message is how America is the protector of the Caribbean Islands with the Roosevelt Corollary. Some people opinions could have been that the bill was excessive. Other reasons may been the bill was an excuse to show off the military. More people could have interpreted it as America trying to keep its from Europe. Techniques used are symbolism to show what the law did. Labeling is used to show what countries are being protected. The Corollary benefitted both countries in away. The law allowed America to protect its territory, and the islands gained protection from European countries.

Annexation of Hawaii Politcal Cartoon

The issue of this political cartoon is the annexation of Hawaii. The cartoonist shows Uncle Sam getting measured for a new suit made of countries. The message is America is getting fat is constantly gaining new territory. Uncle Sam is large and refuses to have anti-imperialism policies.
People at this time believed in Manifest Destiny an wanted to expand America. The only people to hate imperialism is the Anti-imperialist league. The cartoonist labeled the suit as countries showing the territories added to the country. Symbolism is portrayed by saying if America was not imperialist, would lose its mass. This cartoon shows what I think imperialism did to America. America just became heavier and more greedy.

Annexation of Hawaii Political Cartoon

The issue of this political cartoon is America annexing Hawaii. It shows Uncle Sam waiting for Hawaii to be his gain. The message is America waited to take Hawaii in a patient manner. America waited and annexed Hawaii. Other arguments may be America only took Hawaii because it was doing terrible. Others may say it was to stop the rebellion from the natives. Regardless, the cartoonist used labeling and symbolism. They labeled the fruit as countries and symbolized America taking Hawaii. This idea, not the cartoon, is one the reasons I am anti-imperialism because the idea of forcefully bringing a country in your control is unfair and harsh. The cartoon symbolizes the process of the annexation.

Open Door Policy Political Cartoon

The issue of this political cartoon is the Open Door Policy. The cartoon shows Uncle Sam keeping the "door" to China open. The cartoonist's message is America forcefully kept China open to trade. America and other countries claimed spheres of influence in parts of China. People at this time could made the idea of America taking land and resources from China as great idea. Others might agree with me by saying America and other countries went too far with trade. Some techniques used by the cartoonist are symbolism be showing what countries did to China. Labeling is used to show the "door" to China being kept open. The cartoon shows what I am opposed to. China opened up to new countries and was disrespected and taken advantage of.

Panama Canal Political Cartoon

The issue in this political cartoon is Theodore Roosevelt building the Panama Canal. It shows a giant Roosevelt digging through the land in which the canal was built. The cartoon shows as Roosevelt digs ships are waiting. This may mean businesses were waiting a bit for the canal to be built and ease traveling. Some opinions that could be are it shows Roosevelt as a hard worker because it was his plan and he worked for it. Other opinions could be he take too much territory from Panama. The cartoonist delivers their message by using exaggeration by increasing Roosevelt's size. Symbolism is used by using the giant Roosevelt to dig through the land. The cartoon supports and goes against may
opinion on imperialism. I only support imperialism when both countries prosper from the agreement.

Spanish American war cartoon

The issue of this political cartoon the Spanish-American war. The cartoon shows a Spaniard being launched back into Spain. The cartoonist message is if Spain can't respect America then they have to go back home. The cartoonist  shows an American removing Spain from American territory. Other opinions could be that America was interning in an issue that was not of our concern. That opinion, however, was probably lost when the USS Maine was destroyed. A technique used by the cartoonist is symbolism by showing what happened to Spain. Another technique used is labeling by labeling the land in the cartoon. My anti-imperialism stance is supported by this cartoon. My opinion on imperialism that countries should not take territory due the smaller countries might grow angry and rebel.

Purchase of Alaska political cartoon

The topic of this political cartoon is William Seward, the Secretary of State during Abraham Lincoln's terms, buying more countries. Seward was a believer in expansion so he arranged for the purchase of Alaska from Russia. The cartoonist's message is that Seaward was too greedy with buying countries. The cartoonist depicted Seward as a fat, glutton who is constantly eating. On the other hand, some peoples opinion maybe that Seward was a great help to the economy. By purchasing Alaska, Seward gave America raw materials and furs. The cartoonist used symbolism by showing Seward eating territories. They also used exaggeration by increasing Seward's head and size. The cartoonist supports my opinion on anti-imperialism. I am against imperialism due to problems that occur when a country keeps territory in an other country.
